G. Robert Grant, DVM
Dr. Grant is a second generation Orange County veterinarian with over 50 years experience working in animal medicine/surgery. He is a graduate of Colorado State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Grant has had a continued interest in surgery for many years and was one of the first class of students able to pass the rigorous standards for registered veterinary technicians locally. Since an early age, he has learned, focused on, and now teaches the basic parameters of patient safety, monitoring, anesthetic induction, recovery, and, of course highly skilled surgical principles and practice. At CSU, Dr. Grant passed his finals 5 months early, prior to the graduation date of his class, and spent the ensuing months doing fellowships at AMC in New York in both orthopedic surgery and neurosurgery. He then spent the remainder of his time awaiting graduation in the advanced cardiology and cardiac surgery departments as a volunteer when he wasn't working as a staff member as a radiology tech in radiology. Under the close tutelage of Dr. Orton and June Boon, he learned the inner workings of the heart, how to perform advanced cardiac ultrasound, and participated as a senior student on half a dozen open heart surgeries performed under cardiopulmonary bypass with Dr. Orton's team. Dr. Grant did his undergraduate study at Arizona, and he and his family are avid Wildcat fans. He has been invited and has attended multiple AOS meetings (the human side of orthopedics), and is in regular attendance at meetings with AVORE, VOS, VECCS, AVMA, AAHA, SCVMA, and CVA, and is a current member in good standing of the CVA and the SCVMA. He has also been used as an expert witness for the state of California VMB.
Dr. Grant is well published in multiple areas of research involving orthopedics and is a first author in the Textbook of Small Animal Surgery, second edition. He been featured on Animal Planet for the life saving reconstructive surgery on ferile cats with burned extremities, and has performed surgery on paralyzed animals. He regularly lectures on multiple topics involving small animal surgery and loves spending time in the outdoors surfing, fishing, and time with his three pups and growing family and grandkids!
